Wave PR/Campaign Manager (short term position)

Location not fixed but North London preferred

Are you motivated by a desire to see more inclusive communities where people with and without learning disabilities can have an equal sense of belonging?

Wave (We’re All Valued Equally) is a movement for change. We want to help break down the attitudinal and practical barriers that can result in individuals with and without learning disabilities being socially segregated. This, we believe, will happen through us doing things with and not for each other. You can find out more about us at wave-for-change.org.uk
Wave was founded 10 years ago in Muswell Hill and we are now looking to share our ethos more widely, encouraging its adoption in communities across London and further afield. We are currently undertaking research into the barriers around social inclusion and the impact of Wave’s work on people’s attitudes and behaviour. The findings will be presented at a practical and interactive Wave for Change Day event on 21st September where those with experience of ‘doing things together’ will share what they’ve learned with those looking to be more active in this area. We expect this to include people from playgroups/nurseries, churches, sports/activity clubs, community groups, traders/restaurants.

The role
We are looking for someone with PR/campaign experience who can work with the Wave trustees (all voluntary roles) to develop and implement a campaign which will:
• Demonstrate the need for more inclusive communities
• Create change through emphasising the benefits of doing things together
• Share the learnings from our research
• Drive attendance at Wave for Change Day

We expect this to involve:
• Creating content from the research findings and through gathering personal stories, and packaging these into media friendly items
• Generating awareness/interest/excitement through traditional and social media
• Taking an active role in Wave for Change Day - identifying and attracting participants and gaining coverage pre, during and post the event

Experience

Ideally you would have some or all of the following experience/skills:
• Establishing/running campaigns - ideally in the charity sector - and/or relevant PR experience
• Developing and managing social media campaigns for events – ideally in the charity sector
• Working with media, writing and issuing press releases (copywriting experience an advantage)
• Events marketing/management
• Design skills - experience with Photoshop/InDesign etc an advantage but not required

Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who:
• Can work independently (from home), is self-motivated and effective at operating within an informal structure (primarily with volunteer trustees)
• Has a heart for social inclusion and a commitment to Wave’s ‘with not for’ ethos
• Is respectful of the Christian values that underpin Wave

Details
• We are looking for someone to work with us between 1 June and 30 October (with the possibility of an extension). Within this period the primary focus will be in June/early July and again in September/early October. We estimate the project would take 1-2 days per week during these periods
• We have some flexibility on remuneration (a project fee versus a daily rate) which we are happy to discuss

Application
If you are interested in this role then please email your cv with a covering letter to info@wave-for-change.org.uk by Friday 24th May. Please also use this email address if you have any questions about the role. Thank you.
